Placental transmission of atropine at full-term pregnancy.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Measurements of placental transmission of atropine were performed during Caesarean section. Twenty-five patients received 3H-atropine 0.5 microgram . kg-1 i.v. 1-30 min before delivery. Maternal venous blood was sampled before the induction of anaesthesia and at the moment of delivery, together with umbilical arterial and venous blood. Total hydrogen-3 activity was determined by liquid scintillation counting. The stability of 3H-atropine was confirmed by paper chromatography. The concentrations in the umbilical vein 1 and 5 min after injection were respectively 12% and 93% of the corresponding maternal value. Those in the umbilical artery were approximately 50% of those in the umbilical vein during the same period.

Potential pathways by which maternal second-hand smoke exposure during pregnancy causes full-term low birth weight
It is well documented that maternal exposure to second-hand smoke (SHS) during pregnancy causes low birth weight (LBW), but its mechanism remains unknown. This study explored the potential pathways. We enrolled 195 pregnant women who delivered full-term LBW newborns, and 195 who delivered full-term normal birth weight newborns as the controls. After controlling for maternal age, education level...
متن کاملThe impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy on fetal brain development
The development of the brain as the most complex structure of the human body is a long process that begins in the third week of pregnancy and continues until adulthood and even until the end of life (1). Human brain myelination begins one to two months before birth in the visual system and eventually lasts until the age of two in other sensory systems and then the motor systems (4). Processes a...
متن کاملHuman Placental Syncytiotrophoblasts Restrict Toxoplasma gondii Attachment and Replication and Respond to Infection by Producing Immunomodulatory Chemokines
Toxoplasma gondii is a major source of congenital disease worldwide, but the cellular and molecular factors associated with its vertical transmission are largely unknown. In humans, the placenta forms the key interface between the maternal and fetal compartments and forms the primary barrier that restricts the hematogenous spread of microorganisms. Here, we utilized primary human trophoblast (P...
متن کاملHigh Avidity Antibodies to Full-Length VAR2CSA Correlate with Absence of Placental Malaria
VAR2CSA mediates sequestration of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes in the placenta, increasing the risk of poor pregnancy outcomes. Naturally acquired antibodies (Ab) to placental parasites at delivery have been associated with improved pregnancy outcomes, but Ab levels and how early in pregnancy Ab must be present in order to eliminate placental parasites before delivery remains unk...
متن کاملPlacental weight: relation to maternal weight and growth parameters of full-term babies at birth and during childhood.
OBJECTIVE Human growth is a continuous process. Studies defining placental effect on prenatal and postnatal human growth are few. We studied the anthropometric data of hundred mothers who gave birth at term after an uncomplicated singleton pregnancy, and their infants in relation to their placental weight using linear regression analysis. Mother weight, placental weight, and infant length (BL),...
